چکیده

Second-generation theoretical technologies – heavy quark expansions, QCD sum rules and QCD simulations on the lattice – are arriving on the scene, allowing a treatment of charm decays that is genuinely based on QCD. The availability of those theoretical tools strengthens the case for the need for comprehensive precision measurements of charm decays. It is pointed out that the decays of charm mesons as well as of charm baryons have to be systematically analysed to gain control over theoretical uncertainties. A τ -charm factory with Ec.m. ≤ 5.5 GeV is optimally suited for such a program. It would lead to a deeper understanding of QCD that would also prepare us better for exploiting the discovery potential anticipated in beauty decays. In addition it is quite conceivable (though certainly not guaranteed) that there arise fundamental surprises, such as non-canonical rare D decays, D-D̄ oscillations and CP violation in charm decays which would dramatically alter our perspective on Nature’s fundamental forces. Matrix Elements and the Determination of the Weak Mixing Angles

The main goal of this talk is to review a new method’ for predicting, from QCD, the weak matrix elements that are needed to describe the semileptonic decays; B -+ DePe,,B + D’ec, and Ab + A,eti,. The method also relates B + pe& semileptonic decay to D + pZuc semileptonic decay. Since these are exclusive decays involving hadronic states nonperturbative strong interaction physics plays a role. A Qcd Treatment of the Weak Decays of Heavy Flavour Hadrons – without Voodoo and Undue Incantations

There now exist several theoretical technologies for treating weak decays of heavy flavour hadrons that are genuinely based on QCD without having to invoke a deus ex machina. I focus on one of those, which employs an expansion in inverse powers of the heavy quark mass. It has developed into a rather mature framework incorporating many subtle aspects of quantum field theory. I describe its metho...

Heavy Flavor Weak Decays

Weak decays of heavy flavor hadrons play a special role in our understanding of physics of the Standard Model and beyond. The measured quantities, however, result from a complicated interplay of weak and strong interactions. Weak leptonic and semileptonic decays are reasonably well understood, whereas weak hadronic decays present challenges to theory. In this talk, we review the present status ...

The c → uγ Contribution to Weak Radiative Charm Decay

The c → uγ transition does not occur at the tree level in the Standard Model and is strongly GIM-suppressed at one loop. The leading QCD logarithms are known to enhance the amplitude by two orders of magnitude. We point out that the amplitude increases further by two orders of magnitude after including the complete 2-loop QCD contributions. Nevertheless, ∆S = 0 radiative decays of charmed hadro...

Semileptonic Decays of Bottom and Charm Baryons within Relativistic Quark Model

The last few years have brought rapid development of the physics of hadrons composed of light quarks q (u, d and s) and heavy quarks Q (c or b). Heavy quarks are those whose masses satisfy the conditionmQ ≫ ΛQCD, where ΛQCD is the QCD scale parameter. Weak decays of heavy hadrons are a unique tool for determining the elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, for studying phenomena lying...
